Just Not My Thing

Written for GBE2 Week #42 Prompt - Confrontation

     This week's prompt, confrontation, is a tough one for me.  Let me make this perfectly clear...

I hate confrontation!

I am no good at it so I try to avoid it at all cost.  Some people are quite good at the art of confrontation, and it is, after all,  an art form.  Good confrontation  requires -
       1.  complete knowledge of the reason for disagreement;
       2.  thick skin so that no matter how sharp your opponents
            barbs get they bounce right off;
       3.  a degree in sarcasm and 4 letter words;
       4.  an ability to look stone-faced and tough, without any
            sign of weakness;
       5.  the ability to meet it head-on, with no regrets.
 I fail miserably in 4 out of 5 (and I'm not even sure I would always be successful in #1).

     Okay, I admit...I'm a wimp.    Even as a young person I always tried to be a people pleaser.   I never wanted to disappoint anyone.  I would rather have let someone walk all over me if it meant  avoiding a confrontation.    I'd like to say that I grew out of it, but, truth be told, I still have most of the same tendencies.  I still don't like to disappoint anyone and will do anything I can to avoid confrontation.  In some ways I am a little more outspoken than I used to be, but still not much of a fighter.  I'll leave the fighting for those who enjoy it.   As for me, I prefer to be a lover of all that is good and leave the fighting to the professionals.

Until next time...that's my view.

Kat

  3. I love it... I really DO have this one:

    " 3. a degree in sarcasm and 4 letter words;" hehehhe...

    This was a great post Kat. I am not one who looks forward to confrontation, but I have been dressed well for the occasions when they arrive.

    1. As I said, I avoid them at all cost and if actually faced with one tend to get very loud and cry alot.

  4. I don't like to fight and when I'm angry I clam up. Confrontation is not my idea of fun.

    1. I'm a clam too until pushed too far and then as I told k~ I tend to get very loud and cry. I'm really not very good at it.

  5. I hate confrontation - and, the older I get, the more content I am to live and let live. Life's too short for quarrels!

    1. I agree Paula, it does seem the older we get the more likely we are to let others do as they please. I think we finally realize we can't take on the problems of the world.

  6. I hate drama, which is a big part of confrontation. I don't like it, but if needed I will bring my A game to the plate. I am pretty outspoken and tend to tell it just how it is pretty loudly. I have become a master of 1,3,4, and 5 but still have a little trouble with 2. Oh well, you can't have everything. Great post on this weeks topic.

    1. Don't misunderstand me Kathy. I hate it with a passion but will not run from it if pushed far enough. As a friend of mine is fond of saying, "Don't mistake my kindness for weakness." I could hold my own if provoked.

  7. You said it well. I do tend to try to keep the peace but if I'm pushed too far...well that's different and most likely caused by my lack in #2 which would bring out my mad skills in the rest ; )

    1. Thank you Mom. #2 is probably the one I am most lacking in. I've never had a very thick skin.

  11. Kat, it take a special kind of strength to admit you're not always strong! I believe we don't have to respond to confrontation with confrontation. Disarming confrontation is an art form too. I think the world would be a lot better off if our leaders were better at it!

    1. That is very true Laurie! Maybe they should be required to take a class in peaceful confrontation.

  12. I've always avoided confrontation, I learned it early from my parents. But, as I've gotten older, I do find myself being a bit more confrontational-mostly where defending my kids is concerned. People who are confrontational make me very uneasy.

    1. I think any of us, even the most timid, can be confrontational when it comes to defending our kids. It's called maternal instinct. I get very uncomfortable around them too.

  13. I'm not a fighter, either. I have to be REALLY pushed before I push back, but there is a point where I will, and have.

    1. I think any of us will if pushed far enough. I'm more likely to fight back now than I was when I was young.
